Job Captain - Lowell

Overview

An exciting opportunity to join our growing team as Job Captain on a variety of project types.

Caveney Architectural Collaborative is seeking a capable, well-rounded, and detail-oriented architect to join our team as Job Captain. The Job Captain will work on a variety of project types and will be responsible for tasks in all phases of design and construction including: coordinating and scheduling with the design team, engineers, clients, and builders; drawing standards development; and a particular focus on leading in-house QA/QC. An ideal candidate demonstrates the attention to detail needed for the QA/QC role, has the ability to manage multiple projects with simultaneous and accelerated timelines, is incredibly organized, possesses excellent communication skills, and is able to switch tasks quickly while working under pressure. The Job Captain will be a contributing player on a team with a Project Manager and a Designer who work collaboratively on all projects from start to finish. The Job Captain will be expected to work on a variety of project types including residential, hospitality, adaptive reuse, workplace, community and cannabis.  Substantial experience in production of drawings and specifications for all phases of design, project coordination, planning and research, consultant coordination, QA/QC, and project management of day-to-day tasks of internal team members is required.

Required Job Duties

• Production of design documents in all phases of design and construction, in collaboration with the full project team. This ranges from conceptual sketches to fully detailed construction documents.

• Coordinating project documentation, including plans, details, and specifications, with architectural and consultant teams while ensuring quality control and completion.

• Leading coordination meetings with consultants, clients, project team, and contractors.

• Understanding and coordinating engineering systems relevant to projects, and researching any unfamiliar systems.

• Reviewing shop drawings, material samples, and submittals for conformance with design.

• Performing construction administration duties, including RFIs, RFPs, change orders, etc.

• Leading in-house project scheduling and working with Project Managers on long-term goals and team production capacity.

• Contributing to office QA/QC protocols and design standards.

Qualifications

• Professional Degree in Architecture

• Fluency with Revit

• Minimum of 5-9 years of architectural project management and/or project coordination

• Ability to direct or coordinate work and scheduling for a full project team, including design and junior architectural staff, engineers, and consultants.

• Strong communication skills; written, verbal, and graphic.

• Familiarity with building codes, specifications, building, and engineering systems.

• Capable of working with minimal supervision while maintaining an open running dialogue with team members and collaborators.

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, as well as rendering programs

• Architectural registration or path to licensure preferred, but not required

• Ability to commute to Lowell, MA office and travel to project sites / day trips

CAC's Cannabis Division is seeking an enthusiastic, capable, and well-rounded architect to join our team as Job Captain. The cannabis industry offers a distinct opportunity to work on a variety of project types and areas of interest while developing expertise in a new and growing industry.

The Cannabis Job Captain will be responsible for tasks in all phases of design and construction including: coordinating and scheduling with the design team, engineers, clients, and builders; leading in-house QA/QC; and drawing standards development. While prior experience leading cannabis projects or similar is welcome, enthusiasm and willingness to quickly learn and adapt to industry intricacies takes precedence. Substantial experience in production of drawings and specifications for all phases of design, project coordination, planning and research, consultant coordination, QA/QC, and project management of day-to-day tasks of internal team members is required. Familiarity with cannabis building types such as cultivation facilities, labs, commercial kitchens, retail, and security systems is a plus, as is a good working knowledge of related facility complex mechanical and electrical systems.

Required Job Duties

Architectural Project Manager – Florida

Overview

Caveney Architectural Collaborative is currently seeking a well-rounded, driven, capable architect / designer area with strong project management and team management skills to join our studio as a Project Manager. We are a Massachusetts-based studio handling a number of exciting projects throughout Florida, currently in both design and construction, and we are seeking the right person, ideally in the Fort Lauderdale area, to help expand our small team in Florida and to serve as the most senior-level representative of our firm on the ground in Florida. The Project Manager is expected to manage a team consisting of a Job Captain and Designer who will work collaboratively on all projects from start to finish, as well as working with team members located in Massachusetts.

 

Responsibilities will include overseeing and contributing to project design and planning, tracking budgets, managing staff utilization, and scheduling. This position will play a major role in further implementing a retail prototype throughout the state. Construction administration and oversight will also be a major responsibility.

 

The ideal candidate is an organized self-starter with experience leading others and a track record of successfully running multiple, simultaneous projects. Substantial experience in production of drawings and specifications for all phases of design, project coordination, planning and research, client engagement, consultant coordination, QA/QC, and project management of day-to-day tasks of internal team members is required. Thorough knowledge of building technology, solid design ability, and excellent communication skills are critical. The ability to work independently is a must. The successful candidate will also be able to work from home and travel to project sites throughout the state as needed.  

Required Job Duties
  •  Leading overall project planning and scheduling, developing and implementing long-term goals, and tracking progress. Managing all aspects of project and coordinating all project work.

  • Review of, and limited production of, design documents in all phases of design and construction, in collaboration with the full project team. This ranges from conceptual sketches to fully detailed construction documents. Final responsibility for quality control of project documentation, including plans, details, and specifications, with architectural and consultant teams.

  • Leading concept development for new projects in tandem with the CAC team and the client team.

  • Client engagement and coordination, as well as frequent communication and coordination with subcontractors, vendors, and all project stakeholders.

  • Budget and schedule tracking and keeping projects on budget and schedule.

  • Mentoring junior staff and fostering their professional development in all areas.

  • Proactive problem-solving with all parties with a level head.

  • Leading your team by example and understanding how to motivate each individual to get the best result from the team.

  • Overseeing team construction administration duties, including oversight of RFIs, submittals, change orders, etc.

  • Contributing to office QA/QC protocols and design standards.

  • Determining scope of work, estimating fees, writing proposals for prospective projects and meeting with prospective clients.

Qualifications
  • Professional Degree in Architecture.

  • Fluency with Revit.

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional architectural experience.

  • Ability to direct or coordinate work and scheduling for a full project team, including design and junior architectural staff, engineers, and consultants.

  • Strong communication skills, written, verbal, and graphic.

  • Familiarity with building codes, specifications, building, and engineering systems.

  • Capable of working with minimal supervision while maintaining an open running dialogue with team members and collaborators.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, as well as rendering programs.

  • Architectural registration or path to licensure preferred, but not required.

  • Ability to travel to project sites / day trips, and to travel to Massachusetts occasionally if needed.
